A Brighter New Year

 

As 2017 approaches, we think of ways of making the New Year better than the last. If you are thinking about ways you can make things brighter for those in your community that may be in need, please consider joining  Firefly Community Action Projects here in Colchester. We are a startup, Not-For-Profit organisation that would like to see our local charities get the support they need as well as fund social, environmental and cultural projects for our local community.

We are already underway working on some projects and will be working on more in the coming weeks. Whether you have a few minutes or a few hours a week, you can help your fellow residents.

Share the News

Most of us have social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter. Any news that involves our local residents whether in the newspaper or not, we will try to announce to our followers and contact those involved to see what we can do to help. If you hear of any news of anyone that may need their community for help, please let us know. Please, follow us and let’s connect our community.

Volunteer

We have a plenty of projects planned for 2017 with many more to come. Anyone with any free time at all is welcome as well as any level of skill. Not everyone can commit to giving the same amount of time each week, and we understand. We will be listing local charities that are in need of extra volunteers, or you can give what time you can to the Firefly projects.

Donate

Many of our drives involve the donation of items like warm clothes or non perishable foods.  Anything you are able to spare that is in good condition would be welcome. We also would like to know if anyone has a skill or a talent that you would like to share so that we may fundraise for our community projects. 

In this day and age, we are all bombarded for monetary donations from all directions.  If you would like to spare any amount to Firefly Community Action Projects , you will know that all the money will go on projects and charities here in Colchester.  Our website will be listing where our donations go. Merry Christmas, Colchester

‘Tis the season of giving and of family and friends gathered to share the holiday. Colchester is a town with a big heart. Many out there would like to help those in our community that are in need. However with the hustle and bustle of everyday life don’t know what they can do to make a difference, In the New Year, Firefly would like to make a difference to our Colchester Community. Whether it is giving a few moments to let others know about a fundraiser or drive, or if you’re able to give an afternoon to volunteer; you will be giving a crucial gift to the community of Colchester.

Currently, we are collecting warm clothes (coat, scarves, hats and gloves) for Colchester’s homeless to help them through the winter. Warm blankets and sleeping bags would be great too. If you are able to donate any items, please message us on Facebook our on the form on our website. We’ll be in contact with you to pick up the items.

Welcome to Firefly Community Action

Firefly is a startup non-profit organisation that wants to help all of our local charities and create new projects to help all those that live in our town of Colchester, Essex.     Whether you have lived here all your life or have recently moved here, you can see that Colchester is full of generous and kind people.   Firefly would like to bring our community together and show the rest of the country what happens when we all focus on the needs of the community and how we can tackle the issues that affect us all.

As a newly starting non-profit organisation, Firefly will be meeting with local charities in hopes of helping to recruit volunteers, fundraise and give a voice to those that need help.  Our organisation will be fundraising and volunteering for projects that have social, environmental and cultural benefits to the residents of Colchester.

Warm Hearts, Warm Clothes  - Donation drive to give our homeless warm clothes and blankets
 

Memory Lane Sing-a-long -For many of our elderly that are in care facilities, a good sing a long of their favourite songs can brighten up their day.  
 

Colchester Wild Life Watch - Many of our wildlife need help from our community.  Many projects to raise awareness of how to help local wildlife. 
 

Travelling Art Studio  - Many children have difficulty expressing themselves.  This family art studio would like to come to a venue near you for some artistic crafts that allow children of all ages to have fun and be an artist.
 

Local Charities Promotions – Many of our small local charities do amazing things for the residents of our town.  However, some struggle to get the funding they need.  Look out for events that will showcase the amazing work done by locals to help those in need.
 

 

Firefly Community Action Projects is still in the beginning stages.  We are group of Colchester residents who volunteer for many of our local charities and would like to do more for our town.  Currently, we are fundraising not only for local charities but for our local projects.
